Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2024 Building Connected Communities

Each April VOICE recognizes national Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise awareness about sexual violence, educate communities on how to prevent it, and highlight available support and resources for victim-survivors.

VOICE holds annual campus-wide events throughout the month of April that we invite the entire Georgia Tech community to participate in, including Take Back the Night and Teal Ribbon Day. There are also opportunities all year long to learn about how we can all take action to promote safety, respect, and equality to stop sexual violence before it happens and to support survivors in the aftermath.

Take Back the Night

Take Back the Night is Georgia Tech’s candlelight vigil and survivor speak-out to support survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and stalking. Held annually at Georgia Tech since 1995, it is our night to both educate the campus about these issues and to show community support to our survivors. We believe that a key step in ending sexual violence is standing with survivors and offering them the space to share their stories in our community, whether they happened recently or years ago.

Teal Ribbon Day

Every April Georgia Tech recognizes Teal Ribbon Day, a day of action when the Georgia Tech community comes together to show our collective support for survivors and to work together for the prevention of sexual violence. Everyone has a role to play in working to end sexual violence. We believe that as long as sexual violence impacts any one of us — students, colleagues, friends, family members — it impacts all of us.

By wearing teal, you're helping to start a conversation about sexual violence at Georgia Tech. Ending sexual violence requires commitment, action, and support. It will take all of us! Teal Ribbon Day is a symbol of Georgia Tech's renewed commitment to preventing sexual violence and our action in showing up and supporting survivors in our community.
